Ashley Varjavand is an award-recognised swimming teacher with over 15 years of professional experience helping swimmers of all ages build confidence, technique and a genuine lifelong connection with the water.
In 2017, Ashley received national recognition as Runner-Up for Swim England Teacher of the Year at the Swim England National Awards. This is one of the strongest indicators of the quality, consistency and impact of his work within aquatics education in the UK.
Across his career, Ashley has taught swimmers from as young as six months old through to adults in their 80s. That breadth of experience allows him to adapt his coaching style to the individual in front of him, whether the goal is early water confidence, technical improvement, greater stamina, safer swimming or continued progression over many years.
Ashley has particular strength in inclusive swimming and has extensive experience supporting children and adults with disabilities and additional needs. His calm, patient and highly observant teaching style helps swimmers feel safe, understood and capable, which is often the foundation for lasting progress.
One of the clearest signs of Ashley’s quality as a teacher is his exceptional student retention. Many swimmers have stayed with him for 10 years or more, continuing to learn, refine technique and enjoy the process. He does not simply teach people how to swim; he helps them build confidence, independence and a lasting love for the water.
Ashley also supports swimmers with bigger personal goals, including endurance swimming, open-water challenges, triathlon preparation and long-distance development. His approach focuses on efficient technique, sustainable progress and real-world confidence in the water rather than short-term fixes.
In addition to swimming instruction, Ashley is qualified to train and prepare lifeguards for the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ), reinforcing his depth of knowledge around aquatic safety, standards and responsible practice.
Ashley’s mission is simple: to help every swimmer unlock their potential, feel stronger and more confident in the water, and develop a relationship with swimming that can last a lifetime.
